[Overton]Frequently Asked Questions About Enrolling Adults

How do I enroll myself or another adult in your program? The first step is a comprehensive speech and language evaluation. Before we can schedule this evaluation, you need to provide some basic information and let us know what concerns you have about your speech and language, or the speech and language of the adult your are enrolling. You can request the forms to do this by calling our office at (817) 294-8408, by e-mail or by on-line pre-enrollment form. Regardless of the method you choose, you will need to provide the following information:

  • Your name, mailing address and phone number
(If you're not seeking services for yourself, you'll need to provide the above information for the other person)
  • A brief statement about what concerns you have about your speech and language abilities (or the other person's)
  • Where you got our name

Also, if you want us to call you to discuss the problem or our procedures before we send the information out please let us know.

How long will it take to get an evaluation scheduled? We are generally able to schedule evaluations within two weeks of receiving the completed forms.

How long will the evaluation take? Depending on nature of the problem, the evaluation will take between one and two hours.

What will happen in the evaluation? We will address all areas of speech and language in the evaluation. In most cases it will include a hearing screening, a brief structural and functional examination of the speech mechanism, an assessment of articulation (sound production abilities), language testing (basic vocabulary, sentence structure, ability to follow directions, etc.), an evaluation of voice production and rate and fluency (stuttering) assessments. The concerns you listed about speech and language abilities will determine which procedures are used and how much time is spent in each area.

What if the person has already been evaluated? You will still need to complete the required case history information. In addition, you will need to mail us copies of all the previous testing that has been completed. After we have reviewed the results of the testing we will call you to let you know if there is enough information to set up an appropriate intervention program without doing additional testing.

When will I get the results of the evaluation? You will get a brief statement of the results immediately following the evaluation session. However, we do not give a lot of information at this time because we haven't had time to score the tests or listen to the tape made during the evaluation. You will get detailed information on the results about two weeks after the evaluation has been completed. The speech-language pathologist who performed the evaluation will call you to set up a time for a conference, which typically lasts about one hour. At this time you will be provided with a copy of the evaluation report and all of our findings and recommendations will be discussed. Any questions you have will be answered and, if appropriate, a therapy schedule can be set up at this time.

How much does the evaluation cost? It costs $300.00 and includes the hour-long conference that occurs approximately two weeks after the evaluation. This fee is payable at the evaluation session.

What about the cost of treatment? Treatment charges are $110.00 per hour and are payable by the month in advance. The charges are pro-rated by the quarter-hour, so a 30-minute session would be $55.00 and a 45-minute session would be $82.50.

Will my insurance pay for the evaluation and treatment? Depending on the nature of the problem it might. We provide information that will assist you in determining if your insurance company covers evaluations and/or treatment for speech and language disorders in the packet we send out to those requesting services from our center. You can also get this information online by clicking here.

We will provide the necessary forms to file an insurance claim, but even if your insurance company does cover speech and language services, Overton Speech & Language Center does not take insurance assignment. This means you will be responsible for filing the claim and that you will need to keep your account current while waiting for insurance reimbursement. What forms of payment does Overton Speech & Language Center accept? We accept cash, checks, MasterCard and VISA.
